Sahib-i Jamal Begum (died June 1599) was third wife of the Shahzada Nur-ud-din Mohammad Salim, future Mughal Emperor Jahangir. She was the mother of Salim's second son, Prince Parviz.[1]
Biography
She was the daughter of a respected Muslim religious personality, Khwaja Hasan of Herat. She was the cousin of Zain Khan Koka, who was a leading official in the Mugal Empire under Akbar, including serving for a time as governor of Kabul. Her title, Sahib-i Jamal, literally means ("Paragon of Beauty") or ("Mistress of Beauty") which was chosen by Akbar himself.[2]
Salim had fallen in love with her and they got married in 1586. In the same year, in a marriage of political alliance, he also married Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani (Manmati Bai). Sahib Jamal bore her husband three children: his second son, Prince Parviz, as well as two daughters, who died in infancy. She died in June 1599 at Lahore, before her husband ascended the throne on 1605, and was also buried there.
