SFX City Theatre, Dublin

City Theatre Dublin (formerly SFX Hall) is a theatre located in Dublin, Ireland, founded in 1984. It is currently just a producing company that puts on over 300 shows each year in over 50 venues around the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Its productions include Sisters, The Hostage, The Matchmaker, The Vagina Monologues, and The Cuchulain Cycle, as well as highly acclaimed annual Christmas shows for children. In 2008, City Theatre Dublin ran productions of The Importance of Being Earnest with Dillie Keane and Love Letters with David Soul and Jerry Hall.

Cecelia Ahern

On 17 September 2008, it was announced that City Theatre Dublin, in conjunction with MCD, would be producing Cecelia Ahern's first play Mrs. Whippy, based on her novella of the same name. The show is set to run in Dublin's Liberty Hall Theatre in late October. The show is to star Marion O'Dwyer as the lead role of Emelda.

The Empty Space

From July 2007 until March 2008 City Theatre Dublin held a temporary residency in The Empty Space in Smock Alley, Temple Bar. It is a unique venue in Dublin's Cultural Quarter, both historically and aesthetically. The building itself forms part of the old City Walls, and the interior was designed by Peter Brook's internationally renowned technical director, Jean Guy Lecat. Lecat has been technical director and space designer for Jean-Louis Barrault and Peter Brook for over 35 years, and has transformed more than 200 spaces throughout the world, including such theatres as the théâtre d'Orsay in Paris. City Theatre Dublin used the space in their production of Brendan Kennelly's The Trojan Women, which ran as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival 2007.
