Robin Laverne Wilson

Robin Laverne Wilson is a performance artist and activist also known by her pen and stage name Dragonfly. She was the 2016 Green Party candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate from New York.^[1] She is a prominent member of the Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Choir.

Early life

Wilson was born in Detroit, Michigan and from age 9 was raised in Converse, Texas, a bedroom-community within Bexar County outside San Antonio, Texas. Her father was a retired US Army Sergeant First Class combat medic who served in Korea and Vietnam. Her mother was a homemaker and then worked as a domestic as her father's health gradually declined from multiple service-related health complications.

She was successfully competitive in University Interscholastic League speech and drama activities throughout junior and senior high school. She was a member and served as an officer of the San Antonio Branch of the Youth NAACP under the leadership of community activist Ethel Minor.^[2]

Education

Wilson was inducted into the National Honor Society and graduated magna cum laude from Judson High School in 1991. She received the Texas Achievement Honors Award Scholarship from University of Texas at Austin.^[3] She completed her bachelors degree magna cum laude from the Honors College at Rutgers University-Newark with an interdisciplinary degree in media and business. She was distinguished by the university as among the top ten graduates to watch in 2008.^[4] She is pursuing a Master's of Arts in Applied Theatre from CUNY School of Professional Studies.^[5]
