Robert Verney, 17th Baron Willoughby de Broke

Robert John Verney, 17th Baron Willoughby de Broke and de jure 25th Baron Latimer (7 October, 1809 – 5 June, 1862) was a peer in the peerage of England.

Robert John Verney was born Robert John Barnard on October 7, 1809, the eldest son of Reverend John Barnard (1760–1834), and Louisa Verney, daughter of John Peyto-Verney, 14th Baron Willoughby de Broke, inheriting the title 17th Baron Willoughby de Broke and 25th Baron Latimer on the death of his uncle Henry Peyto-Verney, 16th Baron Willoughby de Broke in 1852. He married Georgiana Jane Taylor, daughter of Maj-Gen Thomas William Taylor on October 25, 1842.

He was obliged to change his family name in 1853 to Verney as a condition of inheriting his title. On his death on June 5, 1862 the title passed to his only son Colonel Henry Verney.
