Robert Mortimer

Robert Cecil Mortimer (6 December 1902 - 11 September 1976^[1] was an Anglican bishop in the Church of England.^[2]

Mortimer was educated at St Edward's School, Oxford^[3] and Keble College in the same city. He was ordained in 1927 and was a curate at St Mary's Redcliffe, Bristol.^[4] He then became a lecturer in canon law and then the Regius Professor of Moral and Pastoral Theology^[5] at the University of Oxford before his ordination to the episcopate as the Bishop of Exeter in 1949.^[6]^[7] He held this position for 24 years.

Mortimer was also a notable author,^[8]and frequently appeared on BBC Television. He had four children, one of whom is the journalist and author Edward Mortimer.
