River Valley High School (Also known as RVHS) is a public high school located in Yuba City, California. It was founded in 2005, and has grades 9-12.[2] The high school is noted for its excellence and advancement in education. It currently holds the title of one of the best high schools in Sutter County surpassing Yuba City High School in test scores in 2009.

History

The school, the second high school in the city after Yuba City High School, was built due to Measure SS, a $30.6 million bond measure which was approved by local voters in 1999.[3] River Valley High School is located in an expanding section of Yuba City and is the newest high school in the Yuba City Unified School District. Established in 2005 as the second comprehensive high school in the district, River Valley High School was built in response to community growth due to an affordable housing market next to a large metropolitan area, Sacramento.

The school's first day of classes was Aug. 22, 2005, with Don Beno as principal. In its first year of operation, the school served only freshmen and sophomores, but added one class each year through 2007. River Valley had four grades beginning in the 2007-2008 school year with a total of 1700 students. The current principal of the school is Tom Reusser. The former principal of the school is Larry Bonds, Jr., who assisted in opening River Valley in its first year. Prior to moving to River Valley, Bonds served as an Assistant Principal at Yuba City High School for three years. River Valley celebrated its first graduating class in 2008.
