Ravensthorpe railway station serves the Ravensthorpe district of Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the Huddersfield Line operated by Northern and is 8 miles (13 km) north east of Huddersfield, just beyond Dewsbury junction of the former Manchester and Leeds Railway line towards Wakefield Kirkgate and on the main line to Leeds (the former Leeds, Dewsbury & Manchester Railway). The station's platforms are only located on the latter route. A late addition to the LNWR line (station and goods shed built 1890, although the line itself opened some 42 years earlier) to snap up freight work in the area for the company, it remains a curiosity as to why platforms have not been extended to serve the Wakefield lines.

It is unstaffed (the former station buildings having been demolished after being damaged by fire and replaced with basic shelters) and passengers travelling from there must buy their tickets on the train (there being no ticketing facilities of any kind here). There are timetable posters and a telephone available to obtain train running information, along with digital information screens. Step-free access is limited to the eastbound platform, as the westbound one can only be reached by a footbridge.[1]

Ravensthorpe is one of West Yorkshire's least used stations due to its relatively remote location, although it does serve the nearby town of Thornhill.

Location

Although serving Ravensthorpe on the north bank of the River Calder, the station is situated on the south bank of the river in the civil parish of Mirfield.

Services

Generally an hourly service operates from Ravensthorpe towards Huddersfield and Leeds. One a.m. peak service in each direction on the Calder Valley line via Brighouse also calls, including one through train to Manchester Victoria.[2]

Sundays there is a two-hourly service towards both Leeds and Huddersfield.
