Rautavaara is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 1,734 (31 March 2016)[2] and covers an area of 1,234.96 square kilometres (476.82 sq mi) of which 84.09 km2 (32.47 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 1.51 inhabitants per square kilometre (3.9/sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
