Ralph David Carter (born May 30, 1961) is an American actor and singer.[1] Carter is known for his work as a child and teenager, both in the Broadway musical Raisin (based on the Lorraine Hansberry drama A Raisin in the Sun) and as Michael Evans, the youngest child of Florida and James Evans, Sr. on the CBS sitcom Good Times from 1974–1979.

Music career

In 1975, Carter recorded an album called When You're Young and in Love and performed it on Soul Train. The title song, along with another called "Extra, Extra" were hits at disco clubs and charted at No. 10 and No. 12 respectively.[2]

Personal life

While at a Christmas party in 1982; Ralph met Lisa Parks. Lisa was the younger sister of Ralph's best friend Larry Parks. Ralph and Lisa began dating. They eventually became engaged on July 21, 1986. The two would marry on February 5, 1987. Lisa gave birth to their son Michael Ralph Carter on March 10, 1988. Ralph thought of the name Michael because he played that in Good Times. Lisa gave birth to their second son James on September 8, 1989. On April 3, 1991; Lisa filed for divorcé. The divorce wasn't finalized until June 16, 1992. Ralph was awarded custody of the boys. Ralph met River York on January 14, 1993. The two became engaged on December 2, 1994. They married on December 20, 1994. River gave birth to their son Phoenix on September 15, 1995. Ralph told his boys about their brother. River gave birth to their daughter Jessica was born on April 23, 1997. Their third child Vivica was born on July 25, 1999.
