Rajpura Dariba Mine VRM disaster

The Rajpura Dariba Mine VRM disaster, Dariba, Hindustan Zinc Ltd ,Udaipur occurred on 28 August 1994. This incident occurred due to flooding of the slurry from a mined VRM (Underground mining (hard rock)#Mining methods) stop where cemented fill could not settle and its plug made below the stop got busted. This slurry started flowing from this plug through haulage level and took the shortest path of main shaft to go down below. The shaft was under second phase of deepening. A plug was made in the shaft separating old operating portion with new construction. The slurry flown from the stop got stuck over this shaft plug. Material got accumulated for a period of time till it could sustain the load and thereafter it got broken. This created sudden fall of the all accumulated material below the shaft portion under construction. All the 63 person working below got drowned.[1][2]
