The term Rajasthani Muslims is usually used to signify Muslims from the state of Rajasthan in the north-western part of India, speaking Hindi and Urdu combined. Indian Muslims like all other Muslims offer namaaz five times a day (i.e., Fazr, Johar, Asr, Magribh, Isha) facing towards Kibla/Kaaba (masjid al haram) which is west of Rajasthan.

Rajasthani muslims are also punctual of Ramadan, Zakaat (charity given by well established muslims to poors which is a basic concept of islam) and hajj.

Spread of Islam in Rajasthan

Rajasthan came under the influence of Islam by the social work of Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti, also widely known as Gareeb Nawaaz, who was guided by Mohammad through a bisharat or spiritual dream and Mohammad told gareeb nawaz to leave for spreading of deen (islam) in Hind (present day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) by settling in Ajmer, a city in Rajasthan.

When Gareeb Nawaaz reached India, he found the society to be poisoned from untouchability. So he decided to organize A langar (public eating of food together irrespective of status, sex, religion and caste). This langar brought people into influence of Islam and its strict stand against untouchability.

Hazrat Moinuddin chisti is buried at Khawaaza Moiunddin Chisti Dargah / Roza Shareef in Rajasthani city of Ajmer. The city where he preached islam for his whole life.

Role of Muslims in society

Rajasthani Muslims are very prominent in industry and medium-sized businesses. Many members of this community migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and have settled in Karachi and Sindh.
