Background
"Power to the People" took two years to make. The track includes backing vocals from audiences at their December 2013 UK Tour. Most of the orchestral instruments were recorded in the beginning of 2014, at a recycled orchestra in Catuera, Paraguay.[1][2] Basement Jaxx have stated tried also tried doing other types of the song, including a funk version and an EDM version.[2]
"We went to Paraguay earlier this year and we recorded Power to the People with these teenagers (The Recycled Orchestra of Catuera) who make musical instruments out of rubbish. They went into the trash and took oil drums and barrels and made these instruments."
"We are inviting fans from around the world to contribute their version of Power to the People on a website we launched. We want to time that song release in collaboration with World Peace Day (Sept. 1), which aims to bring peace on a bigger level. Governments agree to a ceasefire for one day."
