Pershing High School
John J. Pershing High School[1] is a public high school in Detroit, Michigan, United States. It is a part of Detroit Public Schools. It is in Conant Gardens,[2] in proximity to the residential areas.[3] It also serves Krainz Woods.[4]
In 2012 Kettering High School closed, and some students were rezoned to Pershing.[5]
The school is currently managed by the Education Achievement Authority (EAA), which took over control of the school in 2012.[6]
In 2014 a teacher used a broom to attempt to break up a fight between two students; as a result,[7] she was fired by the EAA.[6] A video of the fight had been posted online. Later the EAA offered her back a job, but she declined, and in 2015 she sued the EAA in federal court.[8]

- Larry Foote, former NFL player and current assistant coach for the Arizona Cardinals, 2x Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Spencer Haywood, former NBA All-Star and NBA champion, inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

- Marvin Lane, former MLB player for the Detroit Tigers

- Michael "Clip" Payne, musician for Parliament-Funkadelic since 1977, often referred to as "The Man in the Box"
- Paul Seal, former NFL player for the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers
- Ralph Simpson, former NBA player, 5x ABA All-Star[12]
- Ted Sizemore, former MLB player and the 1969 National League Rookie of the Year, CEO of the Baseball Assistance Team
- Steve Smith, former NBA All-Star and champion, Olympic gold medalist in the 2000 Summer Olympics
- Levi Stubbs,[9] lead vocalist of The Four Tops, Stubbs and fellow band member Fakir met each other at Pershing High[13]
- Kevin Willis, former NBA All-Star and champion, second oldest NBA player in history
- James "J Dilla" Yancey, music producer and rapper, late member of the group Slum Village
