Patrick Huston (born 5 January 1996) is a male British recurve archer. He is a three time World Champion at junior level and was selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics. He won his place at the European Championships in Nottingham on 27 May 2016 surrounded by his team mates and his family. He holds the 70m 36 arrow World junior record. He competes for Archery GB and the Northern Ireland Archery Society.

Early life

He was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland to parents Adrian and Felicity Huston. He attended Cabin Hill Primary School where he started Archery aged 8 with Audrey Needham. He carried on Archery into Campbell College. He joined an archery club outside of school in 2009 after being talent spotted by Maggie Squires and started competing in tournaments regularly in 2010.

Career

Patrick was selected for the Northern Ireland Elite Squad in October 2010, that is when he first began to 'train' as an archer rather than just someone who did archery. That year onwards his scores went up and up. He made the NI team for the Junior National Outdoor Championships in July 2011. In this event he took 3rd on the Saturday and 2nd on the Sunday. 2011 continued to be an outstanding year for patrick when he won both the u16 categories and whole Junior National Indoor Championships in December, equalling the Portsmouth record of 594 set by Simon Terry in the 90s. in September 2011 Patrick also founded the East Belfast Archery Club In Tullycarnet Community Centre.

Having started shooting Field Archery in 2011 at a low level his skills increased over the '11/'12 winter and he qualified for the GB Field Archery Team in the spring on 2012. This qualified him to shoot at the World Field Archery Championships in Val D'Isere in August 2012. At this tournament Patrick qualified in ?????th place, he shot well through the eliminations until being knocked out in the 1/4 finals.

September 2012 saw Patrick gain is qualification score for the GB Target Archery team with a 654, 631 for his 70m rounds and 1284 for his Gents fita at the Bowmen of Glen Autumn Shoot.
