Parveen Rana (born 12 November 1992) is a male Freestyle wrestler from India. Parveen came into limelight and everyone's notice after winning the Gold medal at the 3rd Youth Commonwealth Games in 2008.[3] He had won the bronze medal in the 2011 Junior Wrestling World Championship in Bucharest.

Personal life and family

Parveen Rana, the son of Udaybhan Rana and Rajbala, hails from Qutubgarh village of Delhi. Parveen started Wrestling at the age of eight years old, under the guidance of his father and with the support of his elder brother, Naveen Rana, who is a civil engineer and is also engaged in wrestling. Later, Rana shifted to Chhatrasal stadium in New Delhi. He is currently training at the Chhatrasal Stadium only under the Dronacharya awardee Mahabali Satpal alongside, Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwarr Dutt. He calls Sushil Kumar as his role model and wants to win medals for India, just like him. His strength relies on swift counter-attacks.

2008 Youth Commonwealth Games

Gold medal at the 3rd Youth Commonwealth Games.

2011 Wrestling World Junior Championship

Bronze medal in the 2011 Junior Wrestling World Championship in Bucharest.

2012 Hari Ram Indian Grand Prix Wrestling Championships

20-year-old Rana lifted the 66 kg freestyle title at the first Hari Ram Indian Grand Prix Wrestling Championships.

2013 Senior National Wrestling Championship

Parveen won the Gold medal at the Senior National Wrestling Championship in Kolkata 2013 followed by a Gold medal at the commonwealth championship in Johannesburg, South Africa

2014 Senior National Games

2014 can be called as the most difficult in his career as he had a career-threatening neck injury in June. His recovery was supervised by Dr. Nikhil Latey. Parveen made a remarkable comeback to win the Gold at Senior National games and get selected to represent India in the 70 kg weight category at the Asian Games 2014.

2015 Pro Wrestling League

Parveen was the first Indian male wrestler acquired by the Punjab Royals franchise (owned by CDR) of the Pro Wrestling League.

The 2015 Pro Wrestling League was held from the 10th of December to the 27th of December across 6 cities.

2016 Olympic Games, Rio De Janeiro

Parveen was chosen to represent India at the 2016 Rio Olympics as the earlier qualified Narsingh Pancham failed dope test.[4] But the decision was later repealed as Narsingh was given a clean chit by NADA.
