"On Purpose" is a song from American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter's second studio album EVOLution. The song was released as the lead single from the album on July 29, 2016, following her previous non-album single "Smoke and Fire". Carpenter first performed "On Purpose" at Kidtopia in late March, a month after the release of "Smoke and Fire". It is a pop song with elements of tropical house.[1]
Background
On August 2015, it was reported that Carpenter had begun her second studio album.[2] Originally, "Smoke and Fire" was the lead single from her album, but was later removed from the track list. When one fan asked on Twitter why she removed it, she said that her "evolution" came after the song.[3] On July 22, Carpenter released the single cover on Twitter.[4]
Music video
The music video for "On Purpose" was released on August 12, 2016, and as of 23 October 2016, has over 6 million views on her Vevo channel on YouTube.[5] The video was filmed in London and was directed by James Miller.[6] It features Carpenter in various locations in London walking around and dancing.
Performances
She performed "On Purpose" at the Honda Stage at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles on August 25 along with other new music.[7]
