Olivier Boumal (born 17 September 1989 in Douala) is a Cameroonian professional footballer who currently plays for Superleague Greece club Panathinaikos as a midfielder.[1]

Career

Boumal began his career with George Fominyen FC and signed 2005 in Europe with CFF Paris.[2] After one years with the team from Paris moved 2006 in the youth and reserve team of AS Saint-Étienne. In January 2010, he signed a 2.5 -year contract with Superleague club Panetolikos F.C., after a successful trial.[3] He also played for Levadiakos and Iraklis Psachna. On summer of 2014, he signed a two years contract to Panionios for an undisclosed fee.

At the end of 2014–15 season, Panionios midfielder Boumal was on Mersin's radar as the Turkish club was considering to table an offer. The Cameroonian midfielder has been watched closely by Mersin's scouts in action in the game against Olympiakos where he impressed with his display. According to Live Sport newspaper Mersin are determined to make a bid in the region of €500,000 which would be difficult for Panionios to turn down. However, if the potential transfer fail through, it is believed that Panionios will try to tie him up at the club with Boumal's contract expiring in 2016.[4] On 5 October 2015, Boumal has not yet agreed terms with the Greek club. Panionios are satisfied with the Boumal's performance in the championship till now and they wish to offer him a new contract that will last till 2017. [5] The Cameroonian winger Boumal is impressive in the 2015-16 season, with 4 goals and 7 assists in the first half of the season.

On 23 December 2015, Panionios sold the player to Greek club Panathinaikos on a fee of €400,000 plus one player of Andrea Stramaccioni's squad. The manager of Panionios Marinos Ouzounidis can pick one of Christos Donis, Kostas Triantafyllopoulos and Diamantis Chouchoumis, with the first having the most chances for a Panionios' move. The player will sign a 2,5 years contract for an undisclosed fee.[6][7] On 11 January 2016, Boumal made a debut by having an appearance along with a late goal, helping his club to a 2-0 win against Kalloni.[8] On 31 January 2016, on a victorious 3-2 away win against Platanias, Boumal broke his collarbone and will have a surgery. The 26-year-old midfielder will remain out of action for 4–6 weeks.[9]
