Office of Latino Affairs of the District of Columbia

Office of Latino Affairs of the District of Columbia was created in 1976 as part of the Executive office of Mayor of the District of Columbia, at that time, Lawyer Walter Washington for service Latino community in DC as intermediary between major and governmental agencies and private sector in order to improve quality of life of Latino population living in D.C. and answer any social, economic need with strategic alliances between public and private sector, knowledge in governmental practices, public relationship, civic compromise and subbentions and communitarian organizations.[1]

Programs

OLA provides funds for community organizations, technical assistance and economic support to NGOs to improve knolwedge, skills and impact in the programms that they serve to Latino residents.[2]

Budget

OLA is an effort to return and give a part of what more than 800 thousand latino taxpayers living in Washington, DC metropolitan area gives to D.C. government either as businessperson or as owner and buyers of houses, or as workers, or anytime that they buy food, furniture, appliances or any buy or sell any good. And of the DC government receives form Latino community is returned to them in many ways and one of them is OLA. Ola budget for 2016 is 3177 million $.[3] This money is used in many ways, one of them is giving more than 1000 million $ in grants every year to different causes.[4]

Latino population

There are more than 70 thousand of Latino residents in D.C. One of every 10 residents of Washington is Latino (10%), but there are also thousands more that are considered white Hispanics or Latino descendants. Ola serves to every Latino resident and support more than 50 communitarian organizations, and also organize events like job fairs, workshops, and communitarian meetings with dc majors. Also organize traditional festival like Latino Festival also called Fiesta D.C. Also provide health, education employment, and developing services.[5][6]
