Niels Overweg

Niels Overweg (born 15 May 1948 in Amsterdam) is a former Dutch soccer player and Trainer.

History

At the age of nineteen Overweg belonged to the 1967/68 season first team of the former Eredivisie club AFC DWS. When the Amsterdam club the defender came in his first year as a pro to regular operations, but did not belong to the tribe squad. Only in the following year managed Overweg breakthrough and denied to 1972 per season always more than 31 league games. During this time the defender was able to gain first international experience and took with DWS '1966-1968 three times Inter-Cities Fairs Cup part. After the club in 1972 with other associations merged and the FC Amsterdam merged, Overweg moved this summer to league rival Go Ahead Eagles. 1975 graduated Overwerg under then Bondscoach George Knobel four games in Dress the Netherlands. His debut was the defense on 17 May 1975 as he in the game against West Germany was at halftime for Frans Thijssen substitute. Coaching career After playing career Overweg went over into coaching. Between 1986 and 1987 he trained along with Hans Dorjee the Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem. After a three-year break, Overweg supervised 1990-1993 the-league Telstar from Velsen. In summer 1993 he became detached from Simon Kistemaker. In the 1994/95 season he replaced temporarily Fritz Korbach when SC Cambuur as Interim strainer, but was again soon replaced by Han Berger. Nine years later he was there again active as a youth coach. 2006 trained Overweg the amateur team of SC Franeker.
