Nasser Kamel (born July 1959) is the current ambassador of Egypt to the United Kingdom. He previously served as ambassador to France. [1]

Ambassador Kamel studied Political Science in Brussels University and Cairo University's Faculty of Economics and Political Science where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1981. Ambassador Kamel also holds a Masters degree in International Public Administration from the Ecole Nationale D'Administration (ENA) in France. [2]

He joined the Egyptian diplomatic service in 1981, where he ascended to hold different positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' headquarters in Cairo. From 1983 to 1984 he worked as a diplomatic attaché to the office of the Under-secretary for Political affairs, and as a political and economic officer in the cabinet of The Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1990. Ambassador Kamel was the Deputy Assistant Minister for International Economic Affairs from September 1998 to September 1999 where he represented Egypt in a number of economic cooperation for a in Africa. Ambassador Kamel served in a number of our Embassies abroad including Washington, D.C. (1984-1988), Lisbon (1990-194) and Tunis (1994-1998). He was Deputy Chief of Mission in Brussels (1999-2001), and in Paris (2001-2004). [3]

From 2004 to 2006, Ambassador Kamel headed the State Information Service (SIS) in Cairo, where he was responsible for coordinating the government's communication strategy and overseeing the work of Egyptian press bureaus in Egypt's embassies world-wide. [4]

From 2006-2012 he was Egypt's Ambassador to France. After completing his tenure, he was appointed Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, a position which he held until he was appointed Egyptian Ambassador to the Court of St James' in September 2014. [5]

Nasser Kamel also holds the title of Grand Officier de l'ordre national du Mérite, an Order of State with membership (about 187,000 members) awarded by the President of the French Republic. [6][7]
