It is an autonomous and Centrally Funded Technical Institute(CFTI) institute under Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India.

The objectives of the Institute have broadened to meet the present need of the industries, with the introduction of departments of Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME).

Apart from training students NIFFT also provides consultancy, documentation and information retrieval services in manufacturing engineering, industrial metallurgy and in Foundry & Forge Sectors also.

Management

NIFFT is registered as a Society under the Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860. The management of the Institute is vested with a Board of Governors with a chairman at its apex and members representing the Government of India (Ministry of HRD and Industry), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), private and public enterprises, technical and R&D institutions. The institute received technical and financial assistance during its formative period in the form of UNESCO fellowships, experts services, and laboratory equipment.

Campus

Life at NIFFT

NIFFT has many student clubs which conduct many technical and cultural events throughout the year. These include the SAC(Students Activity Centre),SAE Club, Cricket Club etc.

SAE Club

The SAE club runs the college chapter of SAE International at NIFFT. Students with a flair for automobile design from undergraduate courses join this club. This club has participating for the Baja SAE and SUPRA events conducted by SAE India. The team THRUSTERS also participates in the Formula SAE (FSAE Italy) events competing with teams worldwide and THRUSTERS were declared as the overall winners in Class 3 for the static events and bagged whopping margin for their Business Logic Case and Cost Reports. THRUSTERS is a group of students from National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology, Ranchi, India who have designed, conceived and fabricated a Formula Series Car for the prestigious event Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Italy 2013 held at Varano de' Melegari from Sep 13-16th.

Kartavya

Kartavya is an educational NGO run by undergraduates of NIFFT. It provides support to the underprivileged children who do not have access to good quality educational resources.
