Mountain View High School of is a four-year career academy public secondary school in Meridian, Idaho. Opened in the fall of 2003, it is the fourth of five traditional high schools in the West Ada School District #2 and serves its southern portion. The school colors are navy blue, kelly green, and silver, and the mascot is the maverick. At Mountain view, students are encouraged to choose an academy to be placed in and complete the classes to reach their "major." If a student succeeds, they graduate with a certificate stating that they have indeed "majored." The academies are: SEITH (Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, and Health), BTHS (Business, Technology, and Human Services), and A&C (Arts and Communication).

Activities

The marching band claimed first place in the "5A Small" division among other awards, at their yearly District III competition for three consecutive years as well as the High Percussion award for three consecutive years. The Millennium Dancers took home first place in the military category at the 2008 Idaho State Dance and Cheer Competition, then received second place at Miss Dance Drill Team USA Nationals. The varsity speech and debate team placed second out of 70 schools in sweepstakes from the Whitman College tournament for the 2008-09 school year.

Athletics

Mountain View competes in the IHSAA Class 5A, for the largest schools in the state, and is a member of the Southern Idaho Conference (5A) (SIC). In 2012, Mountain View had the largest enrollment in the state, followed by neighboring Rocky Mountain.[3]

The Mavericks brought home their first two 5A state championship titles in the fall of the 2006, when the boys soccer and boys cross country teams brought home trophies within one week of each other. The wrestling team won state in 2008,[4] and the girls cross country brought in more state trophies in the fall of 2008 and 2010.[5] The boys basketball team won state in 2011 and that spring, the girls track team won their first district and state title, capping an undefeated season; they repeated as state champions in 2012.[6]
