Michael Francis (conductor)

Michael Francis is a British conductor. Starting in 2012 he has been chief conductor and artistic adviser to the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. In June 2014 he was named the music director designate to The Florida Orchestra and will be the music director starting with the 2015-16 season.[1][2][3]

He was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra,[4] graduated in 1997 from The Cardiff University School of Music,[5] and played the double bass for the London Symphony Orchestra before he began conducting.[6] His first public performance as conductor of a major orchestra occurred in January 2007 when London Symphony Orchestra's incoming Principal Conductor, Valery Gergiev, fell ill.[7] The following month he replaced the ill composer John Adams.[8]
