The Panama hake (Merluccius angustimanus) is a merluccid hake of the genus Merluccius, found off the west coast of the Americas from Del Mar, California, to Ensenada de Tumaco, Colombia.[1]
Anatomy
The Panama hake reaches an average length of 22 cm, although specimens have been described up to 40 cm. It has a relatively long head and pectoral fins and is silver in color.[2]
Habitat and biology
It is migratory, lying on the seabed at a depth between 80 and 523 m, occupying the continental shelf of subtropical waters.[3] Spawning occurs from April to June, or later.
Fishing
M. angustimanus has little importance commercially, although it fetches high prices when it occasionally shows up on the market, as it is sometimes exported on a local level.[4]
