Company History

Based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Menulog was founded by Dan Katz, Leon Kamenev, Gary Munitz and Kevin Sherman in 2006 and has been operating for over 10 years.[4][5][6] Since its founding the company has handled over 22 million meal orders.[7]

In February 2015, Menulog and EatNow announced their agreement to merge, forming Menulog Group Limited.[8] On 5 April 2016, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission commenced an investigation into the merger on potential breaches of Australian Consumer Law.[9][10]

In May 2015, the company was bought by Just Eat for $855 million Australian dollars, who funded the deal by issuing new shares.[11] In June 2016, Alistair Venn was appointed as Managing Director of Menulog. Menulog formed a partnership with Drive Yello in October 2016 to bring more Australians a greater variety of top quality cuisine to their door and ensure the fastest, most reliable delivery from store to customer.[12] Drive Yello technology means restaurants can book drivers, track deliveries and gain valuable data instantly.

McDonalds

In 2013, Menulog began a delivery partnership with McDonald’s, North Parramatta. It has since expanded to include 22 McDonald’s restaurants across Australia.

Red Rooster

In 2014, Menulog began a delivery partnership with Australian franchise Red Rooster, launching a trial at the Baulkham Hills store in Sydney.[13] As of October 2016, more than 71 Red Rooster Restaurants are featured on the platform.

Services

Menulog offers a seamless experience for both Australian consumers and businesses, using locally built and operated technology.

Menulog customers enter their suburb or postcode and are presented with a list of restaurants available for pick up and/or delivery in their area. This will include restaurants in neighbouring suburbs that will deliver to the user's address.

Restaurant selection is aided by customer reviews, minimum order requirements, promotions available, a speed of delivery rating, plus an overall rating out of 5 stars. The restaurant listings can also be filtered based on these ratings, as well as by cuisine, distance and open time.

Customers add menu items to their order before proceeding to payment, where cash, or credit card is used before the order is submitted. Customers can register their credit cards to easily place their orders through the website or mobile app.

Menulog electronically relays the order to the restaurant, and the restaurant confirms that the order has been received. An SMS or email of confirmation is sent to the customer with an estimated time of delivery. The restaurant then prepares and delivers the food, or the customer picks up the food from the restaurant.

The service offers a best price guarantee to ensure parity with on premises prices. With full end-to-end integration, round-the-clock support and cutting edge delivery solutions, Menulog offers restaurants a simple and effective way to grow profitability and gain insights on customers and trends in the local area.

In addition to accessing new customers, Menulog drives frequency from customers for its restaurant partners, with functionality such as the ‘two tap re-order’ function, the ability to promote to existing customers and loyalty discounts for customers.

Menulog also allows stores to improve operations and profitability by helping avoid long queues at the counter, improving kitchen utilisation and improving yield management with pre-ordering before peak times. Restaurant partners also benefit from the significant investment in marketing of local businesses to drive more customers online, as well as the insights generated through this process. For example, trends in the local area, trends in your category or, popular dishes or offers.

Menulog provides restaurants free websites and mobile apps, as well as various marketing tools and campaigns. There are no setup costs or fixed term contracts for restaurant partners.[14]

In 2012, Menulog received the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Rising Stars award.[15] In 2013 Menulog was a winner in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 awards.[16] In August 2014, the Menulog app was ranked one of the best new apps by Australian TV program Today.[17]

Menulog's research and insights into Australian food trends are regularly featured in the media, with a 2015 study showing Australia's hungriest suburbs published in The Daily Telegraph [18] and The Herald Sun.[19] Menulog's annual Tasty Takeaway awards, which recognise the nation's most popular takeaway restaurants, have also attracted media attention, appearing on news.com.au [20]
