Mechnova is organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam in Kerala, India. It is a mix of technical events and exhibition season of RIT to celebrate the spirit of human knowledge and wisdom. The technical competitions vary over the entire spectra of science and technology.[1]

Previous MECHNOVA

Mechanical engineering association of RIT has organized technical sessions from 1998 onwards.A brief description of programs are stated below

1998 Mechnova 1998 was organized at college with programs including technical symposiums and stage activities (estimated budget – 1Lakh )
2000 Mechnova 2000(Millennium Mechnova) organized at college with National level technical seminar and other technical competitions (estimated budget-1.5Lakh)
2002 Mechnova 2002 organized at college with National level technical seminar and other activities (estimated budget 1.5Lakh)
2006 Mechnova 2006 organized at Kottayam town and the college (two venues) from 17 to 21 February 2006. The event is marked as the first major Mechnova which rose up to a National level. The then Honourable Education Minister of Kerala Shri. E. T. Mohammed Basheer inaugurated the event on 17 February 2006 at Nagampadam Maidani, Kottayam. Mechnova 2006 consisted of exhibitions from leading Institutes and Industries, Technical symposiums, Vintage & Modern Auto-expo and stage items. Indian Government organisations viz. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Central Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering Training (CIFNET) participated with highly educative exhibition stalls. More than 5000 school students from schools in and around Kottayam visited these technical exhibitions arranged at the Mechanical Engineering lab situated in the college campus. More than 50 selected colleges from all over the nation participated in various competitive events held at the campus. Another major event that gave the public a rush of adrenalin was the dirt-bike stunt show by Jinan C.D the Thrice National Motocross Champion and Motocross rider from Thrissur.

The total budget of with a budget of 4.5 Lakhs was raised independently by the students of Mechanical Engineering department through sponsorships and entry tickets. Mr Vinith Vijayan of 2006 Mechanical Engineering class, was the chief coordinator of the event.

2009 Mechnova 2009 organized at College premises with exhibitions from leading Institutes and Industries,Technical symposiums, Auto-expo, Air Show, Bike Stunts, other technical competitions and cultural items with a budget of 10Lakhs.Event was co-ordinated by Mr.Anoop Kumar S,Mr.Jibin Joseph and Mr.Sreekanth K S.

About Millennium Mechnova

Millennium mechnova was the Mechnova conducted to commemorate the new millennium. This edition of the mechnova was organised in a bigger way with a steep increase in the prize money.The symposium was held in two sessions: applied science and energy & management. This time the first prize was Rs.3000,second prize Rs.2000 and the third Rs.1000. The topics were a mix of contemporary issues like C.A.M, I.T etc., and relatively unconventional issues such as material behavior in vacuum pressure, Re - engineering etc., thereby ensuring a high quality competition.

Mechnova was in 2011 back with its new edition with a budget of around INR 1.5 million. It was scheduled for 3 days, starting 13 October 2011. The initial works for the realization of the flagship fest of RIT is currently under way.
