Matthijs de Ligt (born 12 August 1999) is a Dutch professional football player who plays for AFC Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie and for Jong Ajax in the Jupiler League as a defender.[1]

Club career

De Ligt is a youth exponent from AFC Ajax, having joined the academy when he was 9 years old. He made his professional debut at Jong Ajax on 8 August 2016 in a Eerste Divisie game against FC Emmen. He played the full game.[2] On 21 September, De Ligt made his debut in the first team of Ajax by playing in a cup game against Willem II, after 25 minutes De Ligt scored out of a corner. this made him the 2nd youngest goalscorer ever behind Clarence Seedorf. Ajax won the game 5–0.[3] On 24 October 2016, Ajax announced through Twitter that De Ligt was promoted to the senior squad.[4]
