Matthew Christopher "Matt" Deis (born December 13, 1983) is an American musician and songwriter. Originally from Peterborough, New Hampshire, he is best known as the former bassist of CKY with whom he performed with between 2005 and 2010, and metalcore band All That Remains, with whom he performed between 2003 and 2005.

Early life

Deis lived in New Hampshire until the age of four until his family moved to West Springfield, Massachusetts. He has played the piano ever since he was five years old, and picked up the clarinet in elementary school. Matt started taking guitar lessons from Oli Herbert of All That Remains, and eventually started playing bass guitar for the band. During his time in All That Remains, Deis co-wrote and played bass on their album This Darkened Heart. Tours with bands such as Gwar, Slipknot, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage followed.

Deis cites Rudy Sarzo, Marcus Miller, Paul McCartney, Stanley Clarke, Billy Gould, and Sting as his main influences. He also holds a degree in Music Performance from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

CKY

In 2005, Deis auditioned for and subsequently joined CKY. He has since toured across America, Australia and Europe with the band. He has been a part of the writing process since joining, and according to the band's official website's frequently asked questions, "Since obtaining Matt Deis as a bassist, the rest of the band have stated that Deis will write and record on the next CKY album."

At the end of May it was revealed that Deis had left the band, after many rumors and hints by the band toward the outcome, with Miller explaining that he "can no longer commit to CKY ... [which] we all knew was going to happen months ago"

Deis later explained, "I didn't expect all this to come out like this but yeah... I really don't have the ability to commit 100% between work and family at this point and it's very disappointing for me. My true passion is music and, in this day and age, it's really amazing that you can still make an impact through this art. CKY is the best band and I am always going to say they are my favorite band. Jess, Chad, Deron and Matty are geniuses. They're my friends and extended family. I really love them all. CKY also has the best fans in the world and they took me in like family."[1]

Post-CKY and personal life

Deis maintains strong ties to Western Massachusetts. He is an avid supporter of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. Deis is the brother-in-law of former NHL defenseman Gerald Diduck.
