Martin Sensmeier is an Alaska Native actor of Tlingit, Koyukon-Athabascan descent.[4] He is one of the stars of the 2016 remake The Magnificent Seven.

Life and career

Sensmeier was born in Anchorage, Alaska,[3] to Raymond and Eva Sensmeier, but was raised in Yakutat. His father is Tlingit and his mother is Koyukon-Athabascan from Ruby on the Yukon River.[5]

He began his professional career as a welder before working on an oil rig for Doyon Drilling. He eventually quit to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles.[4][6] Sensmeier began work as a professional model before entering into acting. His first feature film was an indie thriller called False Memory Syndrome, which has yet to be released.[1] He was cast in a leading role in the movie The Magnificent Seven, alongside big names such as Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D'Onofrio.[7]

Personal life

As of 2016, Sensmeier is in a relationship with Navajo Native American vocalist Kahara Hodges.[6][8]

Sensmeier is a member of the Native Wellness Institute, a youth advocacy, and is proud of his Alaska Native heritage.[9]
