Marbin is a jazz fusion quartet formed by two musicians from Israel.

History

Marbin first started in 2007 as an improvised music duo consisting of Israeli guitarist Dani Rabin and Israeli saxophonist Danny Markovitch.[1] Markovitch and Rabin met shortly after Markovitch had completed his military service as an infantry sergeant and Rabin had graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston.[2][3]

The duo moved to Chicago, Illinois, and recorded their first album in 2009. Paul Wertico, a drummer and native of Chicago, asked them to join his band, Mid-East/Mid-West Alliance. Wertico was the drummer for the Pat Metheny Group for twenty years, starting in the early 1980s. The Alliance recorded Impressions of a City (Chicago Sessions, 2009).[4]

Markovitch, Rabin, and Wertico then formed a quartet with bassist Steve Rodby, who also had been a member of the Pat Metheny Group. As Marbin, they recorded Breaking the Cycle (Moonjune, 2011). Marbin's membership changed again for their album Last Chapter of Dreaming (2013), which added Justyn Lawrence on drums and Jae Gentile on bass.[4]

Shows and festivals

In addition to their regular schedule playing in top venues and festivals in the states (The Jazz Showcase, Frozen Dead Guy Days, Magic Bag, Gilly's, Andy's Jazz Club, Green Mill,[5] Chi-town Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival),[6] in September 2011, Marbin toured with fusion super group Scott Henderson, Mike Clark, and Jeff Berlin in a series of venues on the east coast and the midwest. In March 2012, Marbin toured with Allan Holdsworth's new trio that consists of Yellow Jackets' bassist Jimmy Haslip, and drummer Virgil Donati. In 2013 Marbin played with Wayne Krantz, Tim Lefebvre, and Nate Wood.
