Longbridge railway station serves the Longbridge area in the south-west of Birmingham, England. It is on the Cross City Line. The station and all trains calling there are operated by London Midland.

History

The current station, on Tessall Lane, was built in 1978 under the auspices of British Rail, as part of the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive's Cross-City Line scheme, at a cost of around £300,000. An earlier Longbridge station had existed nearby, on the Halesowen Railway's branch to Old Hill.

As part of general plans to improve Longbridge, the station may be redeveloped in the coming years.[1] Centro, the passenger transport executive for the area, have also proposed the building of a new multi-storey car park, to provide park and ride facilities at the station.[2]

Services

During Monday-Saturday daytimes, northbound trains operate every 10 minutes with two trains per hour to Four Oaks, two to Lichfield City and two through to Lichfield Trent Valley. Southbound trains operate every 20 minutes to Redditch and three trains per hour from the north also terminate here (using a reversing siding south of the station to change direction). On Sundays, trains operate every 30 minutes between Redditch and Lichfield.[3]

Services are operated by Class 323 electric multiple units.
