Locaid is a Location-as-a-Service (LaaS) company based in San Francisco, California, that provides a gateway for mobile location data and operates a secure, privacy-protected platform that aggregates the location of wireless providers’ subscribers for mobile developer use.

Locaid is subscriber-approved to provide real-time location for more than 350 million[1] smartphones, feature phones, tablets and mobile devices on all the Tier 1 wireless networks in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including América Móvil, AT&T,[2] Rogers, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless,[2] Locaid’s privacy-protected platform strictly requires mobile subscribers to opt-in to receive location-based services in order to ensure user compliance.[3]

Clients

Locaid uses cellular network location to triangulate mobile phone location. Using network location, versus GPS, enables more cell phones to be located indoors and in urban areas, where GPS signals are typically weakened.[3] For mobile developers, the location gateway simplifies the technical and approval interfaces of location-based services among mobile operators, and manages the multi-carrier complexities for mobile brands.[1]

Locaid powers location services for corporations including Visa, TCS, and FedEx. It powers mobile applications including Life360, that allows parents want to request a real-time check-in on their children.[3] Locaid is also used by US states, to offer online gaming within the state borders.[4]

Locaid is a member of The Wireless Association, Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) and International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
