About and history

Living Scriptures, Inc. was founded in 1974 in Ogden, Utah by Jared F. Brown and Seldon O. Young. Initially they sold audio cassette dramatizations called The Family Hour. In 1976 they developed the telemarketing company NICE Corporation but sold it to Cincinnati Bell in 1988 which is now known as Convergys.[3] The funding collected from the sale was used to further develop their animated Book of Mormon videos. They appointed Richard Rich, the director of The Fox and the Hound and The Black Cauldron for the animated ‘Book of Mormon videos.[4][5] Music of Living Scriptures videos were composed by Lex de Azevedo and much of the writing was done by Orson Scott Card. Boyd Kirkland and Pierre DeCelles were prominent animators and James Coleman did much of the background art.[6]

They also developed dramatized audio tapes, CDs, music, and books. In the early 90s, the company branched out into a live-action, documentary-style series for its adult customers and completed The Docudrama of the Restoration and The Modern Propehts series in 1999 and 2004 respectively. Acclaimed film producer T.C. Christensen finished the last two titles of this series with Praise to the Man and Gordon B. Hinckley: A Giant Among Men.

In 2001 they started to sell movies on DVDs instead of VCRs. In 2005 Complete Learning System DVDs were released. They also finished to re-mastering all their animated titles and developed a full Spanish version on each DVD.[7][8]

In 2015 they released smartphone app for Roku, iOS and Android platforms which allow online streaming and offline access of all of their content.
