Live at the Googolplex is a live album by rock band Clutch, compiled from various live recordings on the Pure Rock Fury tour.

Album information

Unfortunately as with quite a bit of Clutch live material that has been released, and then reissued, it does become ambiguous sometimes, and good source material is hard to come by. The album liner notes versus the official website differ, in that the CD states 2002-03 dates but the website states 2001-02 recording dates, and was initially released by the band's own label, River Road Records, in 2002, then reissued on Megaforce Records in 2003.

It has always been an official release by the band, and it highlights the transitional issues you get in the music business when moving from one record label to another, and doing a self released album, that then gets reissued for financial reasons. It is not the only Clutch album to fall into this category due to contractual elements, as The Elephant Riders is another example for the band.

According to some sources, it was recorded in Chicago, IL (tracks 1-4, 12 & 13); Montreal, Quebec (tracks 5, 6, 10 & 11); Kansas City, KS (tracks 7-9) and Columbus, OH (tracks 14 & 15) on the tour dates of February 19 & 21, March 1 & 2 in 2002 and in early 2003, on the Pure Rock Fury North American tour; but it could also have been from 2001 and 2002 era recordings, on the same tour, instead, as sources differ.[2][3]

The "Googolplex" of the title refers to the number of the same name.
