Lithuanian identity card

The front and reverse of a Lithuanian identity card

Lithuanian personal identity cards are officially recognised biometric identity documents issued to Lithuanian citizens. They are also valid for travel within Europe (except Belarus, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine) as well as French overseas territories, the Faroe Islands, Greenland (de facto), Georgia and on organized tours to Jordan (through Aqaba airport) (instead of a Lithuanian passport).

New biometric identity cards

Gemalto won the tender from the Ministry of Interior to deliver 900 000 Sealys Laser-Secured electronic identification cards. Since January 2009, new biometric identity cards have been issued instead.[1]
