Eluru (or Helapuri) is the 7th largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh and largest city in West Godavari district. The city and its region contain natural features such as bank Kolleru lake and Tammileru which becomes into two parts near Eluru and Joins in Kolleru lake, are the landmarks in the city. Eco-tourism is supported by the presence of Bird sanctuaries.[1] The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation is the state tourism department, responsible for maintaining, promoting and developing the tourism sector.

Landmarks

Landmarks in the city include Eluru Buddha Park, a 74feet statue located in the heart of the city, Janmabhoomi park and Brundavan Gardens, maintained by Eluru Municipal Corporation. Wildlife tourism is available in the Kolleru lake. Religious tourism sites include the Dwarakatirumala and Lord Shiva Temple in Sanivarapupeta temples. Other nearby locations include Guntupalli Group of Buddhist Monuments and Kolleru Lake.[2]

Buddha Park

Buddha park is located in the city and is notable for its 74 ft (23 m) Buddha statue in the Abhaya posture, located in the heart of Gaja Vallivari Cheruvu tank which was used as drinking water source for Elephants in Ancient Era.[3]

Kolleru Lake

Kolleru lake is a largest fresh water lake, located at a distance of about 15 km from the city. The lake is known for attracting migratory birds from Northern Europe and Northern Asia during the months of OctoberMarch.

Galigopuram

The ‘rajagopuram' of Sri Chennakesava Ramalingeswara Swamy temple at Sanivarapupeta on the city outskirts, reportedly built during the period of Eastern Chalukyas some 1,000 years ago. This five-storied structure with a height of 77 feet depicts 3000 structures of Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagavatham.[4]

Holy Land

The ‘Holy Land’ of Israel has been replicated on the premises of Fr. Silvio Pasquali Memorial Convent at Duggirala on the city outskirts.[5] The life history of Jesus has been replicated in civic structures and statues at Holy Land. Holy Land at Eluru is second one in India where as first one is located at Kerala.

Nearby Tourist Destinations

Dwaraka Tirumala temple and Guntupalli Caves are located at a distance of 40 km from Eluru City.[6]
