Ciara is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter. Her first album, Goodies, was released on September 28, 2004,[1] and three of its singles – "1, 2 Step", "Goodies", and "Oh" – reached the top three on the Billboard Hot 100.[2] The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, with first week sales of nearly 125,000 copies. The album has also sold over three million copies in the United States,[3] and five million copies worldwide.[4]

Ciara's second album, Ciara: The Evolution, was released on December 5, 2006.[5] The album's single, "Get Up", reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, while the three other singles from the album – "Promise", "Like a Boy", and "Can't Leave 'em Alone" – as well as "Get Up" broke the top ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[2] The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with first week sales of over 325,000 copies and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America only five weeks after its release,[6][7]

Ciara's third studio album, Fantasy Ride, was released on May 5, 2009.[8] The international lead single, "Love Sex Magic," became a worldwide top ten hit. The US lead single, "Never Ever," became a top ten hit on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, with over 80,000 copies sold in its first week. In the United States the album has sold 193,000 copies, and its worldwide sales stand at over 200,000 copies.[9] The album's remaining singles – "Like A Surgeon" and "Work" – achieved minor success on the US R&B chart and in international markets, respectively.

Ciara's fourth studio album, Basic Instinct, was released on December 10, 2010. The lead single titled "Ride", which features Ludacris became her twelfth top ten hit on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which tied her with Beyoncé for the most top ten hits by a female artist on that chart.[10] The album's two remaining singles – "Speechless" and "Gimmie Dat" – achieved minimal success on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The song "1, 2 Step" from the album Goodies has received numerous awards, including both "Best Performed Songs in the ASCAP Repertory" and "Most Performed Songs" from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, "Best Collaboration" from the BET Awards, and "Best Dance Cut" from the Soul Train Lady of Soul Music Awards, and "Choice Music R&B/Hip Hop Track" from the Teen Choice Awards. Ciara has received nine nominations from the BET Awards, winning one of them.
