The Slovenia national football team (Slovene: Slovenska nogometna reprezentanca) represents the nation of Slovenia in international association football. The team is controlled by the Football Association of Slovenia (Slovene: Nogometna zveza Slovenije or NZS), the governing body of football in Slovenia. They are members of both the European football federation UEFA and the world football association FIFA, and as such they regularly compete in the qualifying rounds for the UEFA European Football Championship and the FIFA World Cup.

The team came into existence following Slovenia's independence from SFR Yugoslavia in June 1991 and they played their first match on 3 June 1992, a friendly versus Estonia in Tallinn.^[1] Their first competitive match was a UEFA Euro 1996 qualifier against Italy in September 1994.^[1] Despite the country's small size (Slovenia is a nation of only 2 million), the team has managed to create some upsets in the qualifying tournaments since its foundation and have qualified for the European Championship once (in 2000) and the World Cup twice (in 2002 and 2010).

As of 7 June 2014, Slovenia has played a total of 198 official matches.^[1] The most capped player and the top goalscorer is midfielder Zlatko Zahovič with 80 caps and 35 goals scored in his international career, which spanned twelve years between 1992 and 2004.^[2] The most capped defender is Boštjan Cesar (76 caps since 2003) and the most capped goalkeeper is Samir Handanović (70 caps since 2004).^[3][4] The most capped forward is Milivoje Novaković (63 caps and 25 goals since 2006).^[5] All three players are still active.

Appearances and goals are composed of the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Football Championship and each competition's required qualification matches, as well as international friendlies. The players are listed by the number of appearances, then by goals scored. If the players are still tied, they are listed alphabetically. The table that follows is accurate as of 7 June 2014.
