Once at the party, Emily has a run-in with Razor, Kaylie has a fight with Carter after he realizes she lied to him, and Payson cannot believe she's wasting her time at such a trivial event. Payson blames the girls for getting her into this mess; Emily needs to get to her job, but is stuck with girls who don’t even like her; a very hung-over Kaylie is distraught that she hasn’t heard back from Carter after their fight; and Lauren is agonizing over her one-night stand. Kaylie decides to tell Carter that she is ready to take the next step in their relationship.

Payson has a dream that her injury was not anything serious enough to prevent her from training, and that spurs her into being overly complacent about her injury in front of her family and friends. Her parents worry that she's not as fine as she says she is, but they let it go, figuring she just needs some more time to adjust. Meanwhile, Kaylie is given a parade and a hero's welcome when the team returns to Boulder from the National Championships. Kaylie is overwhelmed by everything (especially the new publicity schedule set up by her manager, MJ) but she manages to take everything in stride. Lauren lets it be known that she thinks that Payson should have been the National Champion, which does not go over well with her team mates at The Rock. Lauren is determined to take Kaylie down a notch, so she goes out of her way to get Carter let back into The Rock, knowing that his presence in the gym will be enough to upset and distract Kaylie from her training. Payson refuses to set foot in The Rock again or even call her friends, insisting she has moved beyond gymnastics. She even suggests that her family move to Minnesota so they can all be together, since they were only in Colorado so she could train. Kim decides that her taking a leave of absence from running The Rock is a good idea in any case, and Summer agrees to take over for her. Nicky worries that he is responsible for Payson's injury and goes over to see her, but Payson assures him that she never took the cortisone he gave her, but there is still a syringe of it left in her locker at the gym. Unfortunately for Nicky, Lauren overhears their conversation. Eventually, even Kaylie makes it over to see Payson, and tells her that she cannot handle the pressure of being #1 and wants advice from Payson on how to handle it. Payson gets very upset that Kaylie would even think of asking her for advice and Kaylie leaves crying. That night Payson destroys all of her awards and trophies from gymnastics. Damon is leaving for L.A. and wants to have one last romantic evening with Emily before he leaves, but it's interrupted when Razor comes back and finds them together. Damon admits that he has been in contact with Razor, but he never told him about his relationship with Emily.

At school, Payson receives a Valentine's rose from who she believes is Ike, but later learns was from Heather, the school's perky over-achiever who causes Payson's pessimistic mindset to change. Tired of Ike's negative attitude, Payson ends her friendship with him, realizing that the world is full of so many opportunities other than gymnastics. Meanwhile, Summer returns to the gym one night after it closes to continue to press Sasha to let her do the talk, and explains that although she believes in abstinence she has needs herself, too. Nicky tells her that the drama at The Rock is too much for him to handle, and that he has been recruited by Denver, and has decided go there. Later on, Payson invites her new friend Heather and the girls to her house for a sleepover, and her mother is glad that she is finally adapting to being a normal teenager. Summer almost forgets her commitment to abstinence before marriage, but Sasha refuses to let her change her beliefs for him. While scouting for dancers for his music video with his agent, Damon bumps into Chloe who has taken a job as a bartender in a strip club. She informs him of Emily's legal troubles. Emily's court date and World Team trials conflict, so Damon calls his stepdad, with whom he has a very rough relationship, to see if he can help. His stepfather, Walter, says that he can and gets Emily a new court date, but the judge calls The Rock, and Ellen Beals convinces him not to move it. Emily does not realize this, and goes to World Team trials thinking the court date has been changed. Austin goes to Ronnie and Alex with his concerns that Kaylie has anorexia and should not be competing, but when he declares he is crazy about her, Alex chucks him out the house refusing to believe there is anything wrong with his daughter. Steve finally tells Lauren that Leslie really did love her and that he was the one who kept her from going to Nationals. Sasha's father, Dmitri, goes to the World Trials to coach the Rock girls. Sasha asks Payson if she is ready to embrace her destiny as a gymnast and then takes her to the trials and makes the judges see Payson, the artistic gymnast opposed to the power gymnast that she once was. While she performs, he cries, incredibly proud of her. Cops show up at the trials to arrest Emily for not going to court, and Damon convinces them to let her finish her audition before taking her away. Kaylie collapses during her beam routine & is taken to the hospital. In the end, Lauren, Emily, and, by a surprise vote, Payson all make the World Team. Payson is incredibly excited but is disappointed to see that Sasha left before hearing the results. Kaylie's position on the team will be decided after doctors examine her to see if she is healthy enough to continue; if she is not, she loses her spot on the World Team and the National Team. Summer gets back together with Steve and is last seen with him and Lauren having dinner. She realizes she cannot love a man who does not share her beliefs, and decides she does not have any feelings for Sasha anymore. Emily is seen in jail with Chloe and Damon. Payson is seen getting a letter from Sasha. Kaylie is seen in the hospital with Austin. The last shot is of Sasha driving away in his truck with his trailer attached to the back.

Kaylie is frustrated with her stay in Rehab, and wants more than ever to get back to training at The Rock. Maeve begins to coach Kaylie on what to say to get out of rehab quicker. Steve introduces Darby Conrad, the 25-year-old, two-time Olympian, and Silver medalist as the new Rock Coach. Everyone, especially Payson, is skeptical of Darby‘s coaching abilities. Lauren is overjoyed because Darby was Lauren‘s Big Sister at NGO camp. Darby meets the girls with a bubbly personality making her clearly more of a cheerleader than a gym leader. Darby informs the girls that she won‘t be imposing any dating rules or curfews on the girls. She trusts that they as gymnasts and women have the self control needed for their profession. Now that Darby is the new coach, Lauren asks to be her second in command as the new team captain in Kaylie‘s absence. Both Emily and Payson disagree that Lauren should be captain, and Darby has Payson and Lauren compete for the title. The competition is extremely close, and the girls are all shocked by the result. Damon is back in Boulder to record, and Emily is happy because she can finally see him without sneaking around. Kaylie‘s therapist approves Kaylie to go home but doesn‘t clear her to begin training. She suggests to Kaylie's parents that Kaylie use this time to develop other interests. Steve asks Summer for a second chance at their relationship. The girls find Sasha working in a bar, and he refuses to return at first but later gives in after Payson stubbornly stays behind to wait for him, returning his Olympic gold medal and telling him she only wanted it because it stood for him never giving up. He later shows up at their hotel room at 3:04 in the morning, telling them they needed to prove they wanted him back, but yes, he would return. Kaylie finally returns to training at The Rock, but the public is under the impression that her time away from the gym was from an ACL injury, not rehab for anorexia. Soon after, Sasha announces that Kelly Parker is going to replace Emily on the World team, and that Kaylie will be replaced, as well, since she has not had enough time to train. Lauren gets worried that Summer does not really want to be part of her family, but Summer assures her that that's not the case. Lauren asks Summer to adopt her so that she will be her real mother, not just a step-mother, and Summer says yes. Tessa overhears that Payson, Lauren, Max, and Austin are breaking into the gym at night to help Kaylie get her skills back, and tells Kelly, who informs Sasha. Sasha surprises the gang at the gym that night and reminds them that he can kick them all off the team for disobeying him. But he agrees to watch what Kaylie has accomplished and admits that she has improved over where she was before her illness, but that he still does not feel she is emotionally prepared for high-level competition. He ends up speaking with her therapist about the whole thing, and Gene tells Sasha that he would not have told Kaylie that she is ready to be a gymnast again if he did not feel she was both physically and emotionally prepared for it. The next day, Sasha announces who will be traveling with the team to Worlds: Tessa Grande, Annie Dillon, and Kaylie Cruz. Based on their training, he will choose the last member of the team at the competition.
