La Plaza Mall is a regional shopping mall located in McAllen, Texas, at the intersection of Interstate 2 (Expressway 83) and 10th Street. It has 1,215,000 square feet (112,900 m2) of gross leasable area and features more than 150 specialty stores, many of which are flagship stores, and restaurants.[2] The mall is one of the highest-grossing operated by Simon, and the largest mall in south Texas.[3]

An original tenant of the mall was a Woolworth dime store, the second in McAllen, which closed in 1997.[4] 1998 expansion brought Dillard's as an additional anchor.[5] Another original tenant was a Jones & Jones department store, which was sold to Foley's in 2000[6] and again to Macy's in 2006.

In November 2015, the Sears store closed its doors to make way for a highly-anticipated expansion of La Plaza Mall. Currently underway, the transformative expansion will feature a new, 245,000-square-foot wing that will accommodate up to 50 new specialty stores, four junior anchors and an exciting dining plaza with six first-to-market restaurants that will be prominently featured facing Interstate 2 with a grand outdoor terrace for al fresco dining. This new expansion wing is scheduled to open in fall 2017. Simon will also upgrade the interior and exterior of the existing mall with new mall entrances, flooring, LED lighting, skylights, upgraded restrooms, luxury seating and landscaping to completely enhance the look and feel of the property. Two new parking decks, able to accommodate approximately 2,000 vehicles, will be built.
