Kristian Vilhelm Koren Schjelderup, Sr.

Kristian Vilhelm Koren Schjelderup (26 October 1853 23 October 1913) was a Norwegian bishop.

Personal life

Schjelderup was born in Ullensaker, the son of Peter Vilhelm Schjelderup and Dorothea Marie Lysholm. He had two brothers and one sister.[1]

He married Henriette Nicoline Hassel, with whom he had nine children. Their son Kristian Vilhelm Koren Schjelderup, Jr. became a bishop as well, while their youngest son Harald Krabbe Schjelderup became a professor of psychology.[2]

Career

Schjelderup finished his secondary education in 1870, and graduated as cand.theol. in 1875. He worked as a chaplain in Moss from 1876 and Christianssand from 1880. He then became vicar in Dybvaag 1890, doubled as dean in Østre Nedenes from 1896 and served as dean in Oddernes from 1903. From 1908 to his death he served as bishop of the Diocese of Christianssand. He died in Sviland while opening a chapel in 1913.[3][2]

He was decorated as a Knight, First Class of the Order of St. Olav in 1910.[3][4]
