Kelvin Warren Fletcher (born 17 January 1984) is an English actor, model and racing driver who played Andy Sugden in the long-running television soap opera Emmerdale from 1996–2016

Career

At the age of seven, Fletcher started going to Saturday morning drama sessions at the Oldham Theatre Workshop and was first seen on television on a Saturday Disney report when he was starring as Charlie in Charlie Is My Darling, which he also performed in a special show at the London Palladium.

He attended Thorp Primary School in Royton for his primary school education, and North Chadderton School for his secondary education.

Kelvin was once a National Champion in the minority sport Inline Hockey. He played for local club 'Chaddy' Wildsharks. He was a national champion in 1998 when he and his team travelled to Newcastle and won the tournament over a weekend. Whilst playing for the 'Chaddy' Wildsharks he gained many young fans who knew him from Emmerdale fame. They would turn out to watch him play, giving the 'Chaddy' Wildsharks junior team a larger than average audience.

His other major stage performance was as Tom Sawyer in the play adaptation of the same name at the Grand Theatre, Manchester. Although his big break came in Emmerdale, it followed a string of television roles, in programmes such as In Suspicious Circumstances, Cracker, Heartbeat and Chiller. He also co-presented an episode of You've Been Framed with Jeremy Beadle. He also had a bit part in another famous British soap opera, Coronation Street. Since appearing in Emmerdale, he has won Best Dramatic Performance at the 1999 British Soap Awards. Noted for having developed a muscular physique in recent years, Kelvin was nominated for the Sexiest Male award at the 2007 British Soap Awards, but did not make it into the top four.

Personal life

In 2004, Fletcher was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, but the police took no further action.[1] In March 2007, he was arrested again after being involved in two fights in a nightclub while with his brother Dean at his 21st birthday.[2] Fletcher is also something of a petrol-head; has an MSA Competition Licence and won the 2012 Silverstone Classic Celebrity Challenge race. On 22 March 2016, it was confirmed that Fletcher would race in the British Touring Car Championship for that season. Fletcher is also a fan of rugby league; growing up, he was a fan of Paul Sculthorpe and Kelvin Skerrett as they were both from Oldham, and he makes occasional appearances at testimonial matches of famous players. In November 2011 Fletcher opened a Poundland in Keynsham, near Bristol in front of a large crowd of whooping and cheering bargain hunters and die-hard Emmerdale fans.[3] He married his long-time girlfriend Liz Marsland on 28 November 2015, and their daughter Marnie was born on 25 August 2016.[4]
