Karen Wagner High School is a high school in unincorporated Bexar County, Texas (USA). The school is operated by the Judson Independent School District. The school has a San Antonio address but is not within the San Antonio city limits.

The school was named after Lieutenant-Colonel Karen Wagner, a United States Army officer and Judson High School alumni-class of 1979 who was killed when an airplane struck the Pentagon on September 11, 2001.

Sports

The school's sports teams are the Thunderbirds.

The 2010 Wagner Thunderbird football team won its first playoff game in school history by defeating Churchill High School. They went on to defeat Warren High School in the second round, and Edinburg High School in the third round. Wagner eventually lost to Stevens High School in the 2010 5A Division I State Quarterfinals.[1]

Fine Arts

In Spring 2010 the Karen Wagner High School Colorguard (Crimson Precision) won State Championships (1st place) in the Novice class. They performed to Glitter In The Air by Pink.

In spring 2007 the Karen Wagner High School Dance Team (Sabre Dancers ) won first place in every group routine entered and won Grand Champions on South Padre Island. The team operated under the direction of Coach Shanda Ince and leading officers Jamielynn Balajadia, Samantha Roberts, and Alicia Vargas.

Other Programs

Other programs include Academic Decathlon (AcaDec), Golf, Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), Theatre Arts, various clubs (Club De Español, French Club, Poetry Club, etc.), FCCLA, and other various programs.

The Wagner High School Marching Band won the USSBA State Championship three years in a row (2010,2011,2012). In 2012, they beat out over 120 bands and were named the Grand Champion and National Champion of the USBands Open National Championships, at Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. with a score of 97.52. They won first place at all of their competitions for the 2011-2012 marching season. They went to B.O.A. for the first time in the 2011-2012 marching season and were placed 24th out of 72 bands. Their sister school, Judson High School, was placed 42nd.
