Joseph Cooney (born 28 March 1991) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a centre-forward for the Galway senior team.

Cooney made his first appearance for the team during the 2012 championship but has failed to break onto the starting fifteen. An All-Ireland medalist at minor level, he has also won a Leinster medal at senior level.[1] Cooney's father, Joe, was a double All-Ireland senior medalist with Galway.

At club level Cooney plays with the Sarsfields senior hurling team, and in the Galway Senior Hurling Championship, Cooney as captain won his first senior county winners medal on 22 November in the 2015 county final v Craughwell at Pearse Stadium [2] [3]
