Johor Bahru City Square is a shopping centre and office building located in the Central Business district of Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. City Square, along with Komtar, are located along the bustling main road of Jalan Wong Ah Fook.[1] Due in part to its proximity to the Johor-Singapore Causeway, City Square attracts many shoppers from Singapore.[2]

The building interior consists of a seven storey mall with five levels of retail outlet space, including a thirty-six storey office block, which is divided into the lower, middle and upper zones. City Square has three floors of basement carpark. The mall, which used to have five levels, now boasts two more floors, including one with an outdoor garden, complete with a pond and a green wall. The Singapore Visitor Centre, located at level 2, was launched in 2005.

In 2000, the Mega Pavilion Cinema has been upgraded to Cathay Cineplex with new theatres at both level 5 and level 7. In mid-2016, Cathey Cineplex was changed to mmCineplexes while the facilities still remain the same.[3]

The pedestrian bridge which connects the City Square to JB Sentral was opened in December 2008.[4]

Business

The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation owns 70% of City Squares shares, which they bought in June 2009. The remaining shares are divided between the Johor Bahru City Council and MPJBT.[5]

Several banks including Maybank, Affin Bank and RHB Bank have opened their branches in City Square. The shopping include several anchor tenants and has various clothes, shoes, bags, electronic stores. The TOPS supermarket, previously located at Basement 1, was declared bankrupt in 2002 and Kapitan Mart took its place.[6]
