John Macdonnell

The Very Rev. John Cotter Macdonnell , DD, MA,[1] (1821-1902) was Dean of Cashel from 1862 to 1873.[2]

He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin[3] and ordained in 1847. He began his career as a Curate at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. He was the Incumbent of Laracor from 1854 to[4] 1862 before his years as Dean; and Vicar of St Mary's Leicester afterwards.[5] In 1875 he became Rector of Walgrave;[6] and in 1878 an Honorary Canon of Peterborough Cathedral.[7] In 1880 he became Rector of Misterton, Leicestershire;[8] and in 1883 a Residentiary Canon at Peterborough.[9] He wrote several books including a life of his old friend Archbishop William Magee (1896).[10] He also wrote "The Doctrine of Atonement" (1858), and "Shall we commute?" (1869).[11] He died after a long illness on 9 September 1902.[12]
