John Giles was a British architect, active in the latter part of the 19th century.

Works

Giles designed the Langham Hotel, London, built between 1863 and 1865 and, soon after, what is now known as the Petersham Hotel, Petersham.[2][3]

Giles, in conjunction with Lewis Angell of Stratford, submitted a design for Stratford Town Hall (now known as Stratford Old Town Hall), beating thirty competing entries. The building was completed in 1869 and extended by Angell in 1881.[4]

Giles worked with associate Albert Edward Gough (died 1908) from premises in Craven Street, Charing Cross. They designed the extension wings to the Georgian workhouse in Cleveland Street, London in 1873[5] and Cavendish College, Cambridge (now part of Homerton College) in 1878.[6] Giles and Gough also worked together on Hillfield House in Denmark Road, Gloucester and, in London, on Christ Church, Gipsy Hill and New End Hospital, Hampstead.[7]
