John D. Bernard is the UK Marketer of the Year for 2013 [1] and one of Marketing Week magazine's 'Vision' 100 for 2014.[2]

Bernard is a UK businessman, also ranked as one of the top 10 Marketers in the UK according to Marketing magazine's Little Black Book.[3] The former head of Marketing for LG Mobile UK and Sony Ericsson, Bernard is credited with creating the LG brand in the UK and for launching the Chocolate Phone.[4] Bernard left LG Mobile and joined Sony Ericsson in 2007.[5]

John Bernard is the Global Director of marketing at Mozilla [6] running Firefox OS, the mobile operating system. Firefox OS is a competitor to Android and Windows Phone and the first Firefox OS smartphone (ZTE Open) was launched in Spain in 2013. Firefox OS, in May 2015 is available on various mobile phones made by LG, Huawei and Alcatel in over 30 countries and is considered a success story on how to introduce a new product into a hugely competitive market. Bernard was shortlisted for the 2014 'Digital Marketer of the Year' award.[8]

Bernard joined Mozilla from leaders in Open Source Canonical Ltd. running the global marketing function [9] at Ubuntu from 2009, where their PC desktop OS market share increased from <1% to over 5% in three years [10] through Ubuntu's introduction and rapid growth in retail stores.[11] Ubuntu is recognised as the major threat to Microsoft Window's dominance on the desktop space [12] and a pioneer in Cloud computing.[13]

Early years

After graduating from university, Bernard worked for the Granada Group, then moved on the Ford Motor Company.[14] He then moved to the role of Marketing Manager for Siemens Mobile.[14]

LG Mobile

Bernard became Head of Marketing for LG Mobile in the UK[14] and was credited with winning 3 awards whilst with the Korean manufacturer.[15] Bernard worked for LG Mobile for almost four years, leaving to join a competitor.[16]

Sony Ericsson

Bernard then became part of the Global Marketing team for Sony Ericsson.[16] In his time there he signed up the musicians Justin Timberlake, Champions League (football) sponsorship and Usher for global campaigns [17] to produce a number of local marketing initiatives.

Current

John Bernard is currently the Global Marketing Head at Mozilla Firefox OS.[18]

Bernard is a Board member of two organisations, including the Open Web Device Compliance Review Board and the Chartered Institute of Marketing[19]

He is a frequent public speaker within the marketing and telecommunications industry[20] and sits on judging panels for awards within telco and Marketing bodies such as The Marketing Society.[21]
