Jhanjharpur is a town and headquarters of a sub-division in the Madhubani district of the state of Bihar, India.

Jhanjharpur is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, on the bank of the Kamala River. The river is formed from the confluence of two separate rivers, the Kamla and the Balan. The topography of this place is beautiful and the land is immensely fertile, which is the reason it is still surviving without any financial and economic structure. It is located on the foothills of the Himalayas, the impact is visible in its climate. If you walk straight from this place towards north on the globe, you will reach Mt. Everest. The place receives plenty of rainfall due to its geographical position.

The language spoken in this region is Maithili hence the people are called maithil (after the language) the famous festival of this region is janki naumi and mahadev puja.

Sarisab, Sarbasima, Naruar, Mahrail, Majhoura, Simra, Sukhet, Lalgang, kuchbi, and the catchment villages of this region have been the land of great thinkers of the nyaya and other philosophical traditions in Indian philosophy.

As of 2011 India census, Jhanjharpur had a population of 24112. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jhanjharpur has an average literacy rate of 47.97%, which is less than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 60.97%. and, female literacy is 34.05%.There are many lingual minorities which have contributed to the development of Jhanjharpur.

Climate

Patna has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers from late March to early June, the monsoon season from late June to late September and a mild winter from November to February.Highest temperature ever recorded is 46.6 °C(In,1966),^[1] lowest ever is 2.3 °C(In,2003)^[2] and highest rainfall was 204.5 mm(In,1997).^[1] The table below details historical monthly averages for climate variables.

Nearest Airport is Jaiprakash Narayan International Airport at Patna, 180 km from here. Jhanjharpur is located on NH 57 and 40 km from Darbhanga. On India Railways map, Jhanjharpur is a junction having meter gauge services to Sakri, Nirmali and Lukaha. Sakri is well connected on rail network through Broad Gauge line.

This is the most prestigious School in Jhanjharpur Area. It has a great infrastructure including library (non-functional), laboratory(also non-existent, no remains can be found anywhere) and playground . Geography

Jhanjharpur is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, on the bank of the Kamala River. The river is formed from the confluence of two separate rivers, the Kamla and the Balan, and is prone to flooding each year, around July. Economy

With the new east-west corridor passing through Jhanjharpur, it is very well connected to east and west of Mithilanchal and Bihar. This will give it a geographical advantage and a chance to grow its economy which is majorly agrarian now.

Agriculture

Major crops grown in the area include rice, wheat, Potato, paan, Peas, Mustard, Onion, [[Sugar cane]]. Makhana is a popular food in the area, and there is some commercial growing in Jhanjharpur. Most of the local supplies of vegetables are locally grown.

Mango is most popular fruit of this area and available in large varieties. Maldah/Langda(Locally known as Safeda), Krishnbhog, Gulabkhas, Gopalbhog, Kalkatiya, Misri Parsad, Bombay, Mohar Thakur, Mohanbhog, Karpuriya, Sarhi, Suparia, Sajmaniya, Sukul, Bathua are commonly available varieties of mango.

Markets

Jhanjharpur's two main markets, 4 km apart, are the Jhanjharpur (R.S.) Market, also known as the New Market, and Jhanjharpur Purani Bazar. Other than those two, the villages in the area hold local weekly markets called Haats, which brings the latest produce from the farms, ponds and condiments etc. The Haats also have pottery and miscellaneous items including seeds, clothes etc. It is quite sufficient from that angle.

Jhanjharpur has a large market for medicines supplying the surrounding areas.

In 2010 Jhanjharpur has got a new market named Raj Brother's Complex, near girls high school & collage and old Jhanjharpur market and also Unique English Study Circle.

Indra Puja and Durga Puja, ID-UL- FITTAR, ID-UL-AZHA Basant Panchmi are the main festivals celebrated annually in Jhanjharpur.

The Indra Puja festival is celebrated in the town and takes place over 10 days, during with the Lord Indra is worshipped, in a diverse cultural program. Dargah mela is also very famous fair its organized by Jhanjarpur Pathshala, Ram krishn vidyalay and western tola Alpura & Tajpur villagers each & every Year on the date of Haz ( Yaumulhazz). ita celebrate on day before Bakrid (Id-Ul-azha). There is a tomb of Makhdu Shah Jahaniyan where the people of India, Nepal, Bhutan comes and demand their votive after completing the same they come with the votive-offers as they promise to Baba Makhdum Shah Jahaniyan. It is wonderful in itself.

Durga Puja and Kali Puja is mainly celebrated in the villages that make up the Jhanjharpur sub-district, as are other festivals, including Saraswati Puja, Chhath Puja,Vindeshwar Sthan (Mandir campus is now reconstructing by BABA VINDESHWARNATH VIKASH SAMITI, ORGANISED BY some local people ie Sanjay Jha "Kanhaiya", Shivji, Pankaj and others people of village), Panchanath Sthan, Videshwar Sthan, Bhairav Sthan,Kaithiniya, Gaurishankar and Banha Gaurishankar are famous Lord Shiva temple situated in Jhanjharpur Subdivision. Nathunni manndir(Mahadev asthan located in Machhdhi) The village of Pachahi is home to the temple of Maa Chamunda. Durga Puja Of Mithila Deep is the oldest Durga Pooja at Jhanjharpur . It was started at 1907 by Late Babu Mahasay Jha . There is a spendid temple with a vast campus of two acre land with a beautiful natural appearance situated at the southern part of the village.

Mithila Painting

Mithila, or Madhubani painting, which originated in the Mithila region, is a popular art form in the area, with Kameshawar Thakur of Raiyam Kothiya being a noted exponent of the art. Manoj Prasad a renowned freedom fighter also belongs to this village.

The style is named after Mithila, the homeland of the goddess Sita, and represents high moral values. Mithila Painting is famous among fashion designers. Students can learn about Mithila Painting from the J D Institute of Fashion Technology, National Institute of Fashion designing and other institutes.

The period from 1970 to 1990 belonged to Jagannath Mishra and Congress Party. Jagannath Mishra also became the Chief minister of Bihar. Ironically, the seat is still in the Mishra family, with his son Nitish Mishra now an MLA from here, but he is now a member of hum, and not Congress.
