From Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Brandjten received her bachelor's degree in finance and marketing from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and is the owner of an advertising agency. Racial Controversy

Brandtjen received considerable criticism for a news release she issued on the 7th of June, 2016 in response to a Milwaukee car chase ending in neighboring Washington County. In it she stated "Families were forced to unlock their gun cabinets and instruct their loved ones to shoot to kill" and that she "will be openly advocating for funding cuts to Milwaukee unless steps are taken to dramatically cut crime in Milwaukee".[3] These statements were widely regarded as racist[4] and representative of a larger racial divide between Milwaukee and neighboring predominantly white suburbs.[5] Brandtjen's statements were criticized by both parties with State Representatives calling her comments "dangerous rhetoric", "irresponsible", and "Donald Trump style fear mongering".[6]
